The College Music Society’s Committee on Community Engagement is pleased to open a call to the membership to participate in Nourish, a Community Engagement project we hope will be adopted by campuses across the country. Piloted on fifteen campuses in the fall of 2019, Nourish  provides an opportunity to gather otherwise disparate communities together to share a meal, make music together and learn one another’s stories as a path to better understanding our shared humanity.

The timeline for this program is wide open. We’d like for your to hold your event at any time between now and August of 2023.

If you’re interested in being a part of this program, we encourage you to fill out this form.

FAQ

Why should I participate in Nourish?

Nourish is an opportunity for you to build a shared artistic experience between members of your campus community and members of the local community at large in order to breakdown barriers between you and the communities you hope to serve. Think of this as an entry point into deeper, long-term work on your campus and in your community.

What do you mean by “Community Partner”?

We are trying not to bee too prescriptive when it comes to defining who your community partner will be. We are interested in bringing together two communities that would otherwise not come together for a shared musical experience and a meal. When Nourish occurred in the past, we saw connections between campus communities and homeless shelters, retirement homes, other campus organizations and food banks. If you have a specific question about who you might partner with, please do not hesitate to reach out to Nate Zeisler ([email protected]) and is happy to help.

Do we need to share a meal together?

Yes. Sharing a meal together is a fantastic way to break down barriers in an effort to start building lasting relationships with your community.

Do we need to perform together?

Ideally, yes. See if there are opportunities for a shared musical experience through this partnership. At a minimum, we would love to have you share/split the stage with your community partner.

Who should we involve?

We will leave this up to you, however, we do recommend that you engage students, other faculty, staff, and members of the community at large in this experience.
